Classroom Items for Regulation Skill Building

As I mentioned in the trainings, I’m linking some items that can be used with the curriculum to add more visual, tactile, or auditory engagement. These are not necessary for the strategies to be effective though, just additional resources that you can utilize.

DEEP BREATHING

Visual Breathing Aids-

-The first demonstrates the 4-7-8 Method while shifting through colors

-The second demonstrates 4-7-8 Breathing and Box Breathing

Visual Aid- Timing is based just on breathing in and out with the light cue- also includes stretching and guided meditation

Movement & Bilateral Stimulation

  • for sitting an rocking movement- wiggle seats of any variety- these inflatable ones can be put away for storage or permanent ones can be more easily accessed in the classroom (flex seating also serves this purpose too!)

  • movement exercises- chair yoga cards for alternative stretches

Grounding With Weight

  • use these small throws as lap blankets or over the shoulders (remember should only be 5-10% of a child’s body weight

  • This first one is 3lbs for smaller children

This second one links to both 5lb and 7lb options

Mindfulness & Meditation- Art Strategies

-Additional mindful & meditative tools for calming- these are more strategies to use with a singular student that may be very dysregulated or even very numb at the time and needs to return to a baseline of focus

Mandalas- print and trace with a pencil or just your finger. Please note there a some free mandala printables in the Mental Health Program that you can get digital copies of by emailing your administration for the links!
